The Lovers is a self-initiated project featuring a series of illustrations depicting aquatic creature pairings made into animated GIFS, which expanded to merchandise, ranging from stickers to apparel. They are meant to celebrate love and all the forms it comes in, drawing from the celestial parallel of the sun and moon. The color palette further plays into the theme of unity, as blue and yellow are complementary.
The individual stickers are unique in that they are created with the intention of being overlapped, but are also able to stand alone. Other merchandise offerings bring in more of the cloud and star motifs.
These began as pencil sketches in my sketchbook, which were layered with tracing paper and inked, as pictured above. I brought the drawings into Procreate and rendered them. These were animated through the GIF export feature. Each layer counts as a new frame.
